| You know, there was one point in time when I thought that we'd never drift apart, but as time passed on, our conversations became minimal and we grew mature. No longer are we naive as we once had been, no longer are we unaware of problems that have been and problems that are becoming. We realize the differences that lie between us, the awkward tension when we attempt to start up a conversation and a new group of friends that have been made in said time. On multiple occasions, we've tried to pretend that it was just like old times, trying to make the other believe that they haven't changed at all - that we're the same as we once were when we were twelve. We are, unfortunately, smarter than that. We know how much the other has changed, whether it be through conversations with mutual friends, or looking at the other from a distance.
Although promises have been made in the past to be friends forever, would you really still consider me a friend? Or would we put each other into the, "Person I Know" category? Acquaintances, if you will - knowing each other on a first name basis. We may know the birthdays of each other, know the family members and about the past - but we don't know about each other in the present day. At least, not enough to be called friends. We tried patching things up, but there was a questionable problem of "how", and quite sadly, neither of us knew the answer. And if we did, we made promises, but never took action to keep it.
When I look at your names on my MSN list, or the old comments on my Xanga, even the ones on Myspace and Facebook, I always think of past memories - the good ones, sometimes the bad. It's a lie if I say I don't miss the old days.
I'm sorry that we still couldn't be friends - but who knows? Maybe in the future we'll all find that one spark that'll set things right again. I'm not going to name any names, but if you're reading this right one, you're probably one of them.
Miss you all, here's to the future!
- KiHyun Kim.

| Lord, You said that once
I decided to follow You,
we would walk side
by side through life;
but when I
needed You the most,
I saw only one set of
footprints in the sand.
The Lord replied,
"I love you
and would never
leave you.
During your times
of trial and suffering,
when you see
only one set of
footprints,
It was then
that I carried you." |
